Information for Attorneys

We want to hear from you in order to help us understand your professional
experience with Hague Convention cases

We need your help to give us an in-depth understanding of your experience with Hague Convention cases involving domestic violence in U.S. courts. Our study seeks to help judges, attorneys and advocates better understand the experiences of women who have experienced domestic violence in court cases brought under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. While the Convention was written to prevent wrongful removal of children from their parents, sometimes mothers leave abusive partners with their children, seeking safety across international borders. These cases present difficult challenges for the legal system since the Hague Convention is vague on issues of domestic violence.

We invite you to take part in a one-hour telephone interview telling us about your experiences with Hague Convention cases. If you agree to participate and complete a scheduled interview you will be paid $100 for your participation or may designate a $100 donation to a charitable organization of your choice. Our project is funded by a grant from the US Department of Justice’s National Institute of Justice. The project methods have been reviewed and approved by the University of Minnesota Institutional Review Board. The research team has submitted and the National Institute of Justice has approved a Privacy Certificate for this project. You can find more information on privacy and confidentiality here.
